Echoes of the Tech-Art Era: A Declaration for the Future

As a tech-art creation, Macau 2049 transforms intangible cultural heritage—including Mongolian Khoomei singing, Lingnan Lion Dance, and Hua’er folk songs—into a contemporary visual language through cutting-edge technology. Technology becomes the grammar of cultural expression, allowing tradition to speak eloquently to the world in a universal language. The integration of technology and culture is no longer a distant aspiration, but a living reality unfolding in the present.

Macau: A Cultural Translator Between East and West

For over 400 years, Macau has served as a vibrant experimental ground for cross-cultural dialogue, cultivating a unique ability to “translate” cultures. Here, deeply rooted intangible cultural heritage is reinterpreted into a universal artistic language that transcends borders. In this context, heritage requires no forced interpretation; it is perceived directly through the resonance of sound, space, and imagery—achieving a form of borderless expression beyond words.

From Native Soil to the World Stage: Heritage Bearers as Global Storytellers

On the stage of Macau 2049 stand not performers in imitation, but authentic bearers of their cultural traditions. Presented within a world-class artistic production, they engage in dialogue with the world in their own voices. This represents the deepest respect for intangible cultural heritage—not merely preserving it but nurturing its continued growth.

Reimagining Intangible Cultural Heritage Through a Systematic Approach

We have chosen a long-term, sustainable path: from building a state-of-the-art theater space, to establishing the residency production Macau 2049, and further evolving it into a dynamic digital performance showcase. Thus, a mobile stage concept is born—one that embarks audiences around the world on an immersive, multisensory journey into the depth and warmth of Chinese cultural heritage.

From Beijing’s National Stadium, back to Macau—and Beyond

Our brief encounter with Macau 2049 at Beijing’s National Stadium (the Bird’s Nest) was a memorable prologue. The full 80-minute production, spanning a 12,500-kilometer cultural landscape, is now being staged at the MGM Theater in Macau, inviting audiences into a fully immersive theatrical experience.
